I have never understood the SEO tactic of providing quality content, though it seems to be the most basic.
If "quality content" is in the eye of the google-bot webcrawler, what exactly do these googlebots see as "quality content"? Maybe links to other sites with the same or related subject matter?
This seems like the number 1 answer by a mile for some kinds of sites. If you have a blog or a band or an editorial webzine--providing a site that people want to read and interact with is going to be the only way to make it stand out. I understand that there's a whole industry of SEO out there, but some of that seems to be counter to the basic idea that you have to provide something useful/desirable first. The more people actually use/read your site, link to it, name check it, etc, the higher it will go in a legit search because frankly the search engines are trying to find what's relevant, not just what's loudest.
