How can On Demand Books be collaboratively compiled?

This is exciting http://www.ondemandbooks.com/hardware.htm but it would be more exciting if there was a solution that allowed books to be collaboratively compiled by an on-line community.

The input format is PDF, but how best build that PDF collaboratively and where best to submit it for printing?

Not sure how this could be done, but the the concept of collaborative editing is pretty much realized by Wikis. Modwest uses an internal wiki extensively to develop and define processes and policies; it's trememndously helpful.

http://www.scribd.com/ is all about presenting documents... somhow the two might be merged?

Daisy - WYSIWYG Wiki for PDF Books

This looks promising: - no wiki markup - handles standard html and non-html content - content, logic and presentation kept seperate More info: WikiMatrix: http://www.wikimatrix.org/show/Daisy Sun Blog: http://blogs.sun.com..._wiki_for_pdf Wiki: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Daisy_(software) Documentation: http://www.daisycms.org/books/daisy_docs_book
